Development

Our organization emphasizes the importance of practicing technical skills and also developing our members professionally and academically. Professional development opportunities include offering company informational sessions and resume review workshops from our alumni and also hosting study hours through the Departmental Development Committee. Fill out this form to submit your resume to our Resume Database, which is shared with our alumni in industry. Social events are also a highlight of what we do to facilitate building a community within our department, which we have been working to accomplish through department-wide mixers and fundraisers.

NASA's Space Grant Midwest High-Powered Rocketry Competition

For this competition, the team built a high-powered rocket with an active drag system capable of flying to at least 3000 feet. Placing 2nd overall, the team also predicted flight performance with and without the drag system engaged and built an on-board data collection package. See this recap article featured by the Aerospace Department for more information.

Aerospace Mixer

Beginning in Fall 2017, we've coordinated and hosted all-aerospace mixers in an effort to facilitate curricular and social involvement from all organizations in our wonderful department. Past activities have included speed "dating" and Family Feud with faculty, undergraduate students, and graduate students.

Pi(e) Day

Biannual "pie contests" in which other organizations and individuals can bake pies to be taste tested for a small cost. All funds raised through these events are put toward WIA's participation in Relay for Life, which happens in the spring.

Alumni Relations

WIA is fortunate to have former members that are now prominent and established in industry willing to return to campus to advise and mentor our members. Events hosted with WIA alumni include Alumni Roundtables, Resume Reviews, Info Sessions, and Happy Hours.
