Outreach

Outreach and giving back to the community is a big part of what our organization does on and off campus. Our two main outreach events include Girls Learning Air and Space Sciences (GLASS) Day in the spring and State Farm Millennium Girls in the fall. If you are interested in helping out with our events and getting involved, please join our group on the Grainger Student Portal to receive our email newsletters!

Talk about your week with us, learn about professors in the department, and talk with other members of WIA. Happy Hour was a weekly event hosted by the aerospace department themselves, and WIA has taken charge with keeping this running.

Mentorship Program

An ongoing event for freshmen aerospace students to reach out to other upperclassmen girls in aerospace and learn more about campus and the aerospace program. Every student is paired up with a member of WIA as their mentor to help them through their first year.

State Farm Millennium Girls

An outreach event hosted by State Farm Corporation that aims to provide 5th through 8th grade girls in the Bloomington area with a day full of science activities to get them interested in various STEM fields. WIA typically has two exhibits, including film canister rockets and a liquid nitrogen display, in which the girls are able to interactively participate with the various experiments.

Girls Learning Air and Space Sciences (GLASS) Day

Annual outreach event hosted by our organization in which students learn more about aerospace engineering and get some hands on experience through rocket and glider design challenges.

Engineering Open House

Annual event at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where engineering students and societies create exhibits to showcase their projects and teach others about engineering. This event is free and open to students, families, and community members. In the past, we've held rocket races right along Boneyard Creek!
